About SHARE
Background
When you get the diagnosis of a chronic STD there are many emotional and spiritual effects to deal with along with the physical ones. SHARE was created by Charlotte H to provide a safe, confidential forum to process issues associated with Herpes (Types I & II) and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections. Herpes Simplex Virus can cause both oral and genital Herpes while HPV is linked to cervical Cancer and genital warts. However, both can present themselves with no symptoms at all. Approximately 20-25% of adults have genital Herpes, 80% have oral Herpes, and 50% of adults have HPV. However, 90% of people who have these viruses do not know they have them.
Location & Times
Mecklenburg Community Church (Meck) in North Charlotte/University Area is the venue for the SHARE monthly support group meetings. SHARE meets the 2nd Thursday of every month from 7PM - 8:30PM. Registration is not required and there is no cost to attend. SHARE is open to anyone living with Herpes Simplex Virus Types I and II and/or HPV. Religious affiliation is not required. Please RSVP of the Charlotte H calendar of events just so we can estimate how many people will be in attendance.
Directions to Meck
Mecklenburg Community Church is situated on an 80-acre campus in the heart of Charlotte's fast-growing northeast area, conveniently located between the I-77 and I-85 corridors. (Please note, West Sugar Creek Road becomes Browne Road)
Taking I-77
From the South: Take I-77 North to exit 18. Head east on W.T. Harris Boulevard for approximately 3 miles. Turn north on West Sugar Creek Road. Go 2 miles to the church, which is on the left-hand side.
From the North: Take I-77 South to exit 18. Head east on W.T. Harris Boulevard for approximately 3 miles. Turn north on West Sugar Creek Road. Go 2 miles to the church, which is on the left-hand side.
Taking I-85
From the West (or South): Take I-85 North to exit 45B. Head west on W.T. Harris Boulevard for approximately 3 miles. Turn north on West Sugar Creek Road. Go 2 miles to the church, which is on the left-hand side. From the East (or North): Take I-85 South to exit 45B. Head west on W.T. Harris Boulevard for approximately 3 miles. Turn north on West Sugar Creek Road. Go 2 miles to the church, which is on the left-hand side.
Child Care
New! If you need child care while attending the support group meeting, email HTeam@CharlotteH.com. The church has a great play room, and we will find someone to volunteer to watch the kids while we meet. They will only be down the hall from you so you won't have to worry. And if they are old enough to ask, you can just say you are going to a singles' Bible study (or something). However, please notify us 2 weeks before the SHARE support group meeting so we can be sure to find volunteers. In the email, please let us know 1) How many children 2) Your child(ren)'s age(s) 3) Any special instructions. This is a completely free service that Charlotte H is offering!
What to Expect
We know that showing up at a support group meeting is probably one of the hardest things you have ever had to do. Therefore, we want you to know exactly what you can expect when you come to SHARE.

Now the next step is literally getting yourself to walk in the door! When you pull into Meck's parking lot, you will want to enter in the doors on the left-hand side facing the building. The doors on the right are usually locked after hours. When you walk through the glass doors, the first thing you will see is an open lobby.

You will turn right and go down the main hall to the other side of the building. We usually meet in Meck's Hospitality Suite which is directly at the end of the main hall.

The Hospitality Suite is a comfortable and inviting room decorated in modern style green and black with leather couches, double doors, and a beverage station. The HTeam members who attend SHARE usually bring a snack and beverages for everyone to enjoy. The meeting starts at 7 PM and goes until 8:30 PM. We suggest that you arrive around 6:45 PM just in case you need some extra time to find Meck or to build up the courage to come inside! But don't worry, this is a safe place, and you are among friends!
